Nobody starts over because they planned to. These books are written for the week after.
Before
The day has no shape. I get through it and could not say how.
Everyone says to make a plan. I cannot see far enough ahead to make one.
Cooking, sleeping, answering messages - all of it feels like too much at once.
Every book on this subject is 300 pages, and I cannot finish a page.
After
I have a floor: four things I do regardless of how the day goes.
I stopped planning the year and started finishing the week.
One small meal a day, a routine I can do badly, and a place that is mine.
Each book reads in one sitting, on a day when reading anything longer would not happen.
What we are trying to do
Halloway Books exists for the stretch between the thing that happened and the life that comes after it. We do not publish encouragement, and we do not publish programmes. We publish the smallest useful thing we can find, written short enough to be read on a bad day.
